Swimming Pool Injury

This client had a summer party at their home which involved swimming. A 5 foot inflatable rubber raft was in the pool. A guest jumped off a diving board and onto the raft, fell off the raft and into the water, hitting their head leaving them paralyzed. The client was found negligent for allowing the raft in the pool. The client’s excess policy covered $9 million in damages for medical expenses, $3 million for pain and suffering, $3 million for loss of life’s pleasures, another $3 million for embarrassment and $1 million for disfigurement.

Man Struck While Riding His Motorcycle
Personal Excess Claim Payment:
$47,500,000

While riding his motorcycle down a highway, a man was struck by a vehicle traveling the wrong way. He sustained multiple fractures, including his arms, collarbone, pelvis and jaw. The injuries also resulted in infertility, pain and suffering, mental anguish and lost wages. The vehicle occupants, all minors, were intoxicated at the time and had left a party at the defendant’s home, where alcohol was served.

Dog Bites Young Girl
Personal Excess Claim Payment:

This client was traveling with his dogs, which were leashed. A young girl asked to pet the dogs, which the client allowed. However, when the girl pet one of the dogs, it bit her, causing significant injuries. She was airlifted to a hospital and underwent surgery. The client’s excess liability policy paid $2 million to the family to support the girl’s physical and mental health.

Service Tech Falls While Working on Home
Personal Excess Claim Payment:

After completing his work in the attic of a customers home, a heating and cooling service technician fell through the floor of the attic, falling nearly 20 feet. He sustained injuries to his back, hand, foot, ribs, shoulder and wrist.

At Fault Accident with Authorized Driver

This client’s daughter allowed a friend to drive her car. While speeding, the driver lost control of the car, which jumped an embankment and struck a building, severely injuring another passenger. The client’s auto insurance policy paid $500,000, and the excess liability policy paid an additional $5 million to the injured passenger.

Fire Spreads to Surrounding Apartments
Personal Excess Claim Payment:

When client accidentally left the flame of his gas stove unattended, a fire started in his apartment and quickly spread to surrounding units. While no one was injured, the fire caused significant property damage. The client’s excess policy covered property damage to neighboring apartments, their personal property, and additional living expenses for the displaced residents. His homeowner’s policy covered $400,000; his excess policy covered $2.8 million.
