Anywhere It Can Rain, It Can Flood

Monday, October 15th, 2018, 5:13 pm

As we have seen in the wake of recent hurricanes, you do not need to live in a coastal area to sustain serious damage from flood waters.  In fact, more than 20% of flood damage occurs in low to moderate areas.  Homeowners policies do not include Flood coverage.  However, coverage can be purchased through FEMA or possibly a private insurance company.  If you are not purchasing the coverage as part of a mortgage, there is a 30 day waiting period that applies in most instances.  Understanding Flood insurance is not easy.  There are many rules, limitations, and conditions of coverage.   There is no time like the present to evaluate your need for flood insurance.  If you have flood insurance you may want to consider whether you have enough coverage to protect your family in the event of a disaster.  Please see attached link for Fact Sheet from FEMA providing more information.
